Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ Getaways

  • We like to call ourself the rebel of the travel world. We are NOT your typical tour company nor your typical outdoor company. We do NOT have all the answers, nor the gear, nor the experience. Our trip leaders are individuals and do things a little different and we encourage that, and therefore our trips are never the same! During our trips/events you might hear some swear words, see some drinks being consumed, share personal details you never thought you would, make lifelong friends and experience places you have never heard.

  • All of our trips are listed in USD. Use the currency converter located on the top right when in the product page if you are buying from another country to see the most up to date price.

  • You can read all about our requirements and preferred travel insurance vendors here.

We require that all participants provide proof of travel protection with emergency evacuation and repatriation coverage of at least $100,000 USD to participate in our trips. You may purchase this coverage from the provider of your choice. Two weeks before departure we will ask you for proof of coverage.

Why is travel insurance so important?

In today’s changing travel environment, it’s important to protect your travel investment so you can relax and enjoy your trip. Unforeseen events such as flight delays, baggage loss or even a sudden sickness or injury could impact your travel plans.

  • Our group sizes vary, but average 8-12 attendees. This gives us the chance to really connect with one another and to make sure each individual has the best time possible.

  • It varies from event to event, so you’ll need to look at each getaway for more information. However, we try hard to keep them affordable. This is something we have thought long and hard about! It’s our mission to get as many women experiencing the outdoors as we can! Getaways are inclusive of your lodging, some food and some of the experiences (all getaways list specifically what’s included). You’d be hard-pressed to find another company that offers prices as competitive as we do.

  • Easy answer? Just ask! We have all been there and most of us are still there! None of us started out with the perfect gear and all the experience. We want you to try new things, so reach out to the group and more often than not, you’ll find there are many other ladies in the same boat, or you’ll get a ton of encouragement and offers to loan you gear. Never let the fear of not being good or experienced enough stop you!

  • Ha! As if she ever wants to cooperate with us! Mother Nature is a beast and when the weather isn't what we want, we simply gear up, change plans or roll with it! During trips, if the weather cancels our activities, as a group we will decide on a new activities. Please note, refunds are not given due to cancelled activities on a trip because of weather. The host and group will decide on alternative activities.

  • Our full Cancellation Policy is listed in our Terms of Service that can be found here.

Our cancellation policy is not meant to be punitive. The Company uses your payments to prepare for trips, pay its staff and vendors, and handle other costs associated with its operations, and it is difficult to ascertain the amount of actual loss to our operations if you cancel. As a result, our policy reflects a reasonable estimate of the actual costs the Company will incur in the event you cancel at various points before departure.

Beginning on June 6, 2024; if you must cancel your trip in the days prior to departure for your trip, your cancellation fee will be determined according to this schedule:

Domestic: Deposit* of $395 or greater at time of booking

91+ days out - Full less deposit

    61-90 days - 50% of trip cost

60 days or less - 100% of trip cost, no transfers or credits.

International: Deposit* of $495 or greater at time of booking

121+ days out - Full less deposit

    91-120 days - 50% of trip cost

90 days or less - 100% of trip cost, no transfers or credits.

*Deposits are non-refundable but are transferable to another trip if done so prior to 91 days for domestic Trips or 121 days for international Trips.

Company must be notified of deposit transfer within 15 days of original cancellation. If the deposit has not been requested for a new trip within 15 days, the deposit amount is forfeited. If the transfer is requested after this timeframe, then the above cancellation policy applies. Deposits may only be transferred one time and incur a $100 rebooking fee. Full payment of trip balance is due 60 days prior to departure for domestic trips or 90 days prior to departure for international trips.

  • We don't discriminate on our trips. We do ask that you follow the leave no trace principles and be respectful of others around you. As well as follow any laws in regards to smoking and drinking.

  • We have a VERY small handful of trips that are coed. The decision to make a trip coed is usually based on style of trip and sleeping arrangements. For example, our Croatia Yacht adventure has a required amount of rooms to book and most rooms are queen beds, not twins. Currently, maybe 10% of our Getaways are listed as coed.

  • Yes! At checkout, you can setup a payment plan that best suites you!

  • We encourage you to embrace the group dynamic of being on a Women Who Explore Adventure, but definitely understand the need to have your own space! We work hard to try and create space within the getaways so you can choose to do your own thing, but if you need a bit more, that’s TOTALLY fine! Your host might ask for you to share your location (you know, typical mom stuff) just for safety!

  • Waitlists are created two ways.

First, a trip has sold out and a waitlist is automatically created by our booking platform, WeTravel. When someone cancels a spot, we contact the waitlist to try and fill that newly opened spot.

Second, we launch the trip without the ability to book and it’s straight to a waitlist. This is usually because we either haven’t finalized all the bookings for the trip (hotels, activities) and are waiting for the confirmation OR we are gauging interested for a new destination.

Either way, there is no hierarchy in the waitlist :) When a spot or the trip becomes available, we email everyone. Sometimes our waitlists are robust and it’s time consuming to reach out individually down a list to offer the spot. So, if you are on the receiving end of being informed that a spot is available, it is first come, first serve! Grab that spot while you can!
